The Wooden Escalator at Macy's NYC

I had a very sweet and tearful moment this weekend while visiting the iconic Macy's at Harold Square, a moment that took me back to age 5. When I saw this wooden escalator at Macy's, it reminded me of the first time I ever rode an escalator.
My Mom, Ms. Jackie, loved the holiday season and she loved to visit "fancy stores". You know, back in the day when you would look forward to going shopping on a Saturday and spend the entire day roaming the mall and other stores just to "see what they had". We'd hit every store just to see the Christmas decorations and enjoy the holiday spirit. Wow, I still do that to this very day.
I vividly remember the first time I ever rode on an escalator. It was at the iconic Pizitz's Department Store in Birmingham. I was about 5 and we were on a special holiday shopping trip to Birmingham. I remember Mom being excited to look around the fancy store. And I was more focused on riding up and down, to every floor and then some.
I remember riding up to the "Christmas Wonderland" where I encountered the "talking Christmas Tree" with big red lips. I was awestruck. I recall us going to Loveman's, Parisian and maybe one or two other stores in downtown Birmingham. We also hit the malls too. We probably had lunch at some place like Morrison's Cafeteria.
Fast forward, 45 years later, when this week I stepped onto this escalator at this iconic store. I've been here a few times before, but this time, it moved me. I think I had a few tears as I rode up.
Mom never got to visit Macy's at Harold Square, but I'd like to think she was with me on this visit. I had the best time this past weekend visiting New York City.
Maybe you have a similar story or a special holiday shopping moment.
