Watch Out For Dragons

“Watch out for Dragons” and Happy Thanksgiving.

So, many have asked what is the meaning behind the phrase “watch out for dragons”, that I use to close out my life and leadership posts.

No, this phrase is not a reference to “Game of Thrones” or “Lord of the Rings”, or any other mystical message.

It’s actually this big, Tennessee orang-ish (…would have looked better in crimson) stuffed dragon with wings, courtesy of Dollywood.

But this dragon has significance, it belongs to my two-year-old, great nephew, Rush. This dragon survived being drugged around Dollywood all day by a rambunctious two-year-old. It rode in the stroller, it rode on top of the stroller, and it probably was run over by the stroller too. It survived being drug through waterfalls, and everything else a two-year-old could possibly get into while his Uncle J helped him get into it. Thus, the phrase, “watch out for dragons”.

Leadership Tip: if you are going to win a dragon at Dollywood, win it at the “end of the day”, not the beginning of the day. You’re welcome.

So, remember to motivate someone in a positive way today, don’t take yourself or others too seriously, win the stuffed animal at the end of the day, and then watch out for dragons.

Happy Thanksgiving!
